DappRadar

2018 - 2025
dead
dappradar was the analytics platform for blockchain applications, the one most web3 founders pointed traders at when they needed to prove their dapp had real users. it launched in february 2018, inspired by the cryptokitties traffic spike of late 2017, and grew into a dashboard tracking eighteen thousand decentralized apps across ninety-three different chains. by march 2025 it had around half a million monthly users. by november 17 2025 the founders posted on x that the current market made running the platform financially unsustainable.

~ the last words ~

dappradar was the leading independent analytics dashboard for the world of blockchain applications. it was the site you went to when you wanted to see how many real wallets were touching a smart contract, what the trading volume on a nft marketplace looked like over the last week, and whether a chain you had never heard of had any actual usage. it ran from february 2018, when the cryptokitties congestion of late 2017 made it suddenly necessary to measure dapp activity, until november 17 2025, when the founders posted on x that the platform was no longer financially viable.

at peak the site tracked 18,111 dapps across 93 chains and served about half a million monthly active users. the founders, skirmantas januškas and dragos dunica, said they explored every option before announcing the wind-down. the radar token fell around thirty to thirty-eight percent within hours of the post. on-chain treasury data showed the company had been burning through stablecoins for months at a rate that the surviving subscription tier could not cover.

i never relied on dappradar professionally. it was the kind of resource i would land on through a search result while looking up whether some specific dapp had any real volume, scroll the rankings for thirty seconds, and close the tab. that is also how most of its half-million monthly visitors used it, which is the underlying problem. an analytics platform that everyone glances at for free and nobody pays for is a business that runs on the founders' patience.

~ how it landed ~

the cryptokitties moment in late 2017 was when blockchain applications first looked like consumer products. cryptokitty trading saturated ethereum, gas prices spiked, and suddenly every crypto investor wanted to know which other dapps were getting attention. dappradar launched in february 2018 to answer that question with rankings and active-user counts. the timing was good. the entire ico era and the defi summer and the nft cycle and the post-2022 retreat all happened on top of its dashboard.

~ the fall ~

the platform's business model never really solved itself. core dashboards were free, and the premium tier plus the radar token were supposed to carry the operating costs between them. none of those revenue streams scaled to match the maintenance burden of supporting ninety-three blockchains with daily-fresh data. dapp activity itself also fell across most chains after the 2022 retreat. analytics for a shrinking market gets harder to monetize as the market shrinks.

~ the day it died ~

on november 17 2025 januškas and dunica posted that the platform was shutting down because the current environment made running an operation of dappradar's scale unsustainable. the wind-down was framed as gradual rather than instant. data tracking would stop progressively and associated services would be phased out over time. decisions about the dao and the radar token were deferred to a later announcement. token holders saw the price drop in the next hour and the broader web3 analytics tier lost the one platform that had served as its reference dashboard for the previous seven years.
