~ the obit ~
Colopl opened Battle Girl High School on 16 April 2015, a free-to-play phone game for iOS and Android about a school of girls who fight, with a paid currency called 星のかけら, star fragments. It was Japanese and it stayed that way. Four years is a respectable run for the form, long enough to get a television anime in 2017 and to build the kind of playerbase that sends in survey responses when asked.
The notice came on 31 May 2019 and gave sixty-one days. New registration closed that same afternoon at 15:00, and star fragments stopped being sold at the same moment, though anything already bought stayed usable to the end. The end was set for 31 July at 15:00 exactly.
No reason appears anywhere in it. The operative phrase is 誠に勝手ながら, roughly "selfishly on our part", which is the standard Japanese construction for announcing something unilateral, followed by an apology for not having met expectations. That is the whole explanation. What Colopl published instead of a cause was a farewell schedule: a collaboration event with Alice Gear Aegis over the summer, and a commemorative album that the company confirmed only after surveying players on whether they wanted one.
On 31 July the servers went down on time.

~ the graduation chapter ~
The last story update shipped the same day as the shutdown notice, and it was called 最終部 卒業, Final Part: Graduation. A game set in a school closed its narrative on the one event a school story is obliged to end with, and did it on the exact day the players learned there would be nothing after. Writing and scheduling that takes months of lead time, so the ending was finished and sitting in a build while the game was still selling star fragments.
~ the anniversary of nothing ~
Colopl never took the page down. The page at colopl.co.jp/battlegirl-hs still answers, and every 16 April the company marks the date, usually with a crossover involving Alice Gear Aegis, which is a game you can actually play.
On 16 April 2025, the tenth anniversary of a launch whose product had been gone for nearly six years, Colopl announced a spin-off. The working title was バトルガール ハイスクール スピンオフ(仮), which translates as "Battle Girl High School Spin-off (tentative)" and includes the word tentative. It was to be built by So-net Entertainment Taiwan and released worldwide inside 2025. It was not.
On 16 April 2026 the trade press checked again. Famitsu and Inside-Games both reported the spin-off delayed out of 2025 and still 鋭意制作中, in earnest production, with no release date and no pre-registration. The brand has now outlived the game by longer than the game ran, and the anniversary it celebrates is the launch of something you cannot install.
