~ the obituary ~
Takeshobo closed a magazine called ナマイキッ! with its May 2018 issue. There were serials inside it that had not finished, which was the exact situation the publisher had walked away from in 1996 when it shut コミックガンマ and left most of that magazine's stories hanging forever. This time it did the other thing. It put the serials on a website in the same month the final issue shipped.
The pre-launch went up on 26 March 2018 and ran the ナマイキッ! chapters again as web reprints. The full site opened on 25 May 2018 under the name WEBコミックガンマぷらす, with three new serials and a stated brief that comes out in English as a web comic magazine piled high with pretty girls and fantasy. Its early original work leaned on comicizations of 小説家になろう novels, which by 2018 was where a large share of Japanese commercial fantasy was being sourced.
It ran seven years and four months. On 17 October 2025 Takeshobo consolidated four of its comic sites into a single address called 竹コミ!, and ガンマぷらす went in alongside WEBコミックガンマ and ストーリアダッシュ and まんがライフWIN. The serials moved across. The address did not.
This is the fourth of these Takeshobo sites I have written up and I have still never read a page on any of them. Free Japanese web comic sites were built for a commuter holding a phone, and the business they were actually in, walking a reader toward a paperback volume in a Japanese bookshop, has no version that has ever run where I live.

~ what it published ~
The site's own concept line put pretty girls and fantasy in the same sentence and the lineup followed it faithfully. くっ殺せの姫騎士となり、百合娼館で働くことになりました。by ひな姫 and 八月九日 僕は君に喰われる。by tomomi were both still running the week it closed. One serial made it all the way to television: ちょっとだけ愛が重いダークエルフが異世界から追いかけてきた, animated by Elias and broadcast in 2025, the same year the site carrying it stopped existing.
Launch week also came with a collaboration with にじよめ and a set of LINE stickers for a character called 女主任・岸見栄子. That is what marketing a free comic site looked like in 2018. You did not buy advertising, you pushed your characters into the messaging app everybody already had open.
~ the film at cinema rosa ~
じょりく! by 活火秀人 started in ナマイキッ! with the February 2016 issue, came back as a reprint on the pre-launch site in March 2018, and continued as a ガンマぷらす original after that. In 2020 it was made into a live-action film distributed by Mobacon, which played four dates at Cinema Rosa in Ikebukuro across the end of July and the start of August. Eight volumes are in print, the most recent shipped in July 2025.
A second title, 大きい女の子は好きですか?, had already been filmed before it transferred onto the site. Two live-action credits and one anime is not a small return for an address most people outside Japan have never typed once.
~ the last of the four ~
Of the four sites that went into 竹コミ! that October, this was the youngest and the thinnest. まんがライフWIN had been running since 2002 and WEBコミックガンマ carried メイドインアビス. ガンマぷらす existed because a magazine had died with work unfinished, and then it kept going for seven years because the catching had worked well enough to justify itself.
竹コミ! updates daily and every serial is still there to read. Whether that counts as a death is the question each of these mergers raises, and the answer here is the one this site keeps landing on: the name came off and the domain stopped serving it.
