~ the goodbye ~
If you have ever reposted a reaction GIF of a Brazilian pop singer looking unimpressed, there is a real chance it came out of a Portuguese-language forum you had never heard of. Pandlr was that forum. It ran on its own domain from March 2015 to September 2025, it was overwhelmingly Brazilian and heavily LGBTQ, and Brazilian researchers who study memes name it as one of the main production sites for the country's internet humor.
It did not start as any of that. In 2005 it was the Jovem Pan community on Orkut, dedicated to a radio station, and when Orkut shut down in 2014 the group spent the next months on borrowed platforms, Grupia and Yoble among them, before landing on VK. In March 2015 it stopped renting and built its own site, took the name Pandlr, and turned from a radio fan club into a general pop culture argument.
This one is outside my reach in a way that has nothing to do with the era. Pandlr's whole peak sits inside years I was very much online for, 2015 through 2025, and I still would not have found it, because the entire thing happened in Portuguese inside a fandom culture that never crossed into the Turkish internet. I know it the way I know any of it: through the GIFs, which arrived here stripped of any indication of where they were made.

~ from a radio station to a meme factory ~
The output was the point. Pandlr users made GIFs at volume, largely from Brazilian television, and pushed them onto Twitter where they got detached from the source and became generic reaction images. The singer Gretchen was the most reliable subject, and the sheer weight of Pandlr's output is a large part of why she ended up carrying the title of Brazil's queen of memes.
In mid-2017 the forum tried something almost touching about this. It set up a project called Memepedia, an archive meant to document where each meme came from and, in theory, protect the authorship of the people who made them. A forum of anonymous posters had built itself a rights registry. It ran for a while and it did not change what happened to a single GIF once it left the site.
~ the cuca year ~
In 2017 a member cut a series of GIFs of Cuca, the alligator witch from the Brazilian children's series Sítio do Picapau Amarelo. They went national and then kept going, and by December outlets outside Brazil were listing them among the best memes of the year. Veja ran a piece on the character turning into an international gay icon, sixteen years after the television series that put her on screen.
The forum's other headline moments were less charming. In February 2018 it fed a rumor that Selena Gomez had been booked for the Super Bowl halftime show, which was false and traveled anyway. A Facebook group with the same name was exposed for racist posts that year, and Pandlr's administrators had to publish a statement saying it was not them. During the 2022 election the forum was named as an origin point for conspiracy claims about Jair Bolsonaro that were aimed at evangelical voters.
~ the last letter ~
The February 2023 rebuild is the number that tells the story. Before it, the platform had over 330,000 registered members spread across separate communities. Pandlr 3.0 centralized all of that into a single space, and by August 2025 the registered count stood at about 21,826. Whatever the rebuild fixed, it did not bring the population with it.
In November 2024 Gretchen, whose image the forum had been recycling for the better part of a decade, said she intended to sue over AI-generated videos made by forum members that put her in fabricated sexual content. On 8 September 2025 the administrators announced Pandlr was closing permanently. On 13 September, Allan Hubner posted a farewell letter on the front page counting up a twelve-year run, admitting how heavy the forum had become to run, and saying that after recent events keeping it alive no longer made sense. He noted that most of the users had already moved to a new community called Bunklr. The domain still answers today with a React shell that loads nothing and a page title reading Pandlr - R.I.P.
