~ the eulogy ~
yaari did not reach me. an indian social-commerce app aimed at whatsapp resellers and small-shop owners in tier-two cities was never going to land on a laptop in ankara. i was working on edge ai by the time yaari launched, and my india tab that year was mostly zomato and rupay coverage.
the shape of the product was clean. indiabulls, a mumbai-based financial services group that had been pivoting away from real estate, handed the app to kubeir khera and asked for a meesho competitor. yaari would carry a curated catalog. resellers would push products through their whatsapp contacts and take a margin, while yaari handled the fulfillment. meesho had already shown the model worked.
the reseller side did work. the problem sat on the supplier and logistics end. by may 2022 yourstory and inc42 both reported that yaari could not pay its third-party suppliers and delivery partners on time. customer orders started failing, and once that fulfillment gap widened the layoffs came in one stroke.

~ what it actually did ~
the yaari app itself was a straightforward reseller marketplace. it offered a browsable catalog of consumer goods at wholesale-tier prices and a share button that generated a whatsapp-friendly image plus caption. the reseller kept the difference between the wholesale price and whatever they told their customer.
this is the exact playbook that meesho had already scaled to tens of millions of resellers by 2021. yaari came in behind that, funded by a parent that wanted to move fast rather than sustain a long marketplace-liquidity war.
~ the unraveling ~
the failure was not the product. it was the working capital. an early-stage social-commerce marketplace has to front payments to suppliers before customer refunds settle, and it has to eat a lot of returns per order. yaari did not have the balance sheet for that. in may 2022 the layoffs cut about sixty percent of the workforce, roughly one hundred fifty people. moneycontrol reported the same month that the remaining product and tech team would be folded into dhani, indiabulls's other consumer-facing digital brand.
by june 2022 the yaari brand was effectively an internal service inside dhani. the app was no longer being pushed. downloads slowed and reseller supply started drying up.
~ what got buried with it ~
the interesting piece is what happened later. in october 2025 a corporate scheme merged seventeen indiabulls entities into yaari digital integrated services limited, and the combined entity was renamed indiabulls limited. yaari the app died. yaari the shell company got promoted to holding-company duty for the entire indiabulls consumer-financial stack. a rare kind of afterlife for a failed d2c brand.
