Dragon's Dogma Online
~ the goodbye ~
I missed this one for the simplest reason available. It never came out in English and it never left Japan, so there was no client to install and no account to be made from Ankara. Four years of it ran and the language was the entire wall.
Capcom launched Dragon's Dogma Online on 31 August 2015 as a free to play title on PlayStation 4 and Windows. There was a PlayStation 3 version as well, which says something about who the company thought was still out there. It took the single player Dragon's Dogma from 2012 and turned the part everybody already liked into a real multiplayer game.
A million downloads inside the first month, with seven hundred thousand of them within a day of release. For a Japan only free to play title that is a serious number, and Capcom answered it by running the game in seasons, adding a second in 2016 and a third on 17 July 2017.

~ what it was ~
Dragon's Dogma has one famous idea and it is the pawn. In the single player game you build a companion that learns how you fight, and other players borrow it while you are offline. It is cooperative play assembled out of data passed between strangers, invented because the game had no real multiplayer to offer.
Online took that and put the actual people in. Parties of four, with pawns filling whatever slots were empty, against the same enormous monsters you climbed in the original. The climbing survived the transition, which mattered more than it sounds, because a griffin you can grab hold of and ride upward was not something the MMOs of 2015 were handing out.
~ the announcement ~
Capcom posted the notice in July 2019. Downloads of the client and the DLC were pulled on 11 July and the service was given until 5 December. The reason offered was that continuing to provide a service the company considered satisfactory had become too difficult, which is corporate Japanese for the money no longer working.
The timing is the part that stung. Season 3 had gone in two years earlier and staff had been talking publicly about planning a fourth. Players who were waiting for the next season got the end of the game instead.
~ the next chapter ~
The servers went off on 5 December 2019 and there is nothing left that runs. No offline mode was ever built. Four years of content that existed only on Capcom's machines went with them, including the whole third season that most players outside Japan never saw described in their own language.
The franchise itself was fine. Dragon's Dogma 2 arrived in March 2024 to a large audience and the pawn system came with it, still asynchronous, still the first thing anybody mentions. The branch that tried to make it synchronous is the one that is gone, and it is gone in a way no re-release can undo, because the game was the service.
