~ the last words ~
BET+ went live on 19 September 2019 at $9.99 a month with over a thousand hours of content, a joint venture that BET Networks and Tyler Perry Studios had announced that June. Perry held part of it personally, folded into the production deal he had signed with BET, and that ownership is the difference between this service and the dozen other cable-brand streamers that launched the same year. He was not licensing a library to it. He was a partner with a stake in whether it worked.
The catalog started as Perry's back catalog plus BET's own archive and grew into something with its own shape. More than a hundred original films came out of it. On the scripted side it ran Ruthless and All the Queen's Men, with Zatima spun out of Perry's Sistas, plus The Ms. Pat Show and Bruh on the comedy end and documentary work like American Gangster: Trap Queens. The output was constant in a way premium streamers are not, because it sat on a production pipeline that already existed at volume.
What it was actually selling was the absence of a fight. A Black-led scripted series on a general-audience platform has to justify itself against the whole slate every renewal cycle. On BET+ it was the slate. Seven years of commissioning ran on that arrangement, at a scale nobody outside the audience paid much attention to.

~ the buyout ~
Paramount Skydance, which had taken over Paramount the year before, acquired Tyler Perry's minority stake on 13 March 2026 and announced on the same day that BET+ would be wound into Paramount+. Buying the partner out first is the tell. With Perry's stake gone there was nobody at the table whose interest was the survival of the separate service.
The company's framing was that Paramount+ would become "the new home for BET+ content," and in the narrow sense that is true: over a thousand hours moved across into a BET-branded hub. A hub is a row of thumbnails with a logo on it. What it does not have is a commissioning budget or somebody senior whose job is arguing for another season.
~ the phase-out ~
The wind-down began in June 2026 and ran through the summer. BET president Louis Carr told staff in a memo that Paramount+ would be the new home for BET+ content from June. The catalog crossed over on 23 June, the separate app stopped on 22 July, and the last of it finished by the middle of August. Seven years, closed in about ten weeks. Type bet.plus today and you get bounced into a Paramount+ brand page, which then geo-routes and 404s if you are not in the right country.
None of this reached Turkey. BET+ was a US-only service about American Black television, and the closest I ever got to the parent network was BET turning up in cable listings abroad as a channel nobody I knew had a reason to stop on. The reason to write it down anyway is that the consolidation logic here is the same everywhere: a platform that exists because one specific audience was underserved gets absorbed into the platform that was underserving them, and the absorption is announced as good news for that audience.
